The Family Build Project
The Family Build Project provides outreach, case management and counseling services
for residents of Housing Authority sites. Clients include
individuals and families, youth through senior age ranges.
An example of Family Build services:
Joe was distressed because his wife
was coming home from the hospital and he could not care for her
alone. Joe and his two children live in a Housing Authority complex.
The family exists on Joe's disability pay. Joe walks with a cane
and cannot lift over 50 pounds due to his disability. His wife
could be cared for at home if there was someone to help him move
her from the bed to a wheelchair and elsewhere as needed. Joe
was trying to get assistance, but regulations required that his
wife be at home before service could be guaranteed.
Our case manager worked with in-home
supportive service organizations and had qualified care givers
in place the week before his wife was due home. She also took
Joe to the Social Security office and worked with him on his wife's
eligibility so another income source could help with their expenses.
Because of the case manager's knowledge of the system of care
and her ability to work within it, Joe's wife was able to come
home safely.
